Sandile’s background and passion for fashion led him to pursue a career in modeling. “My name is Sandile Mashego, and I’m a first-time model from Soshanguve. With a love for fashion, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue my passion,” he shares. “What makes me unique is my dedication to using my platform for social good, particularly advocating for Period Poverty awareness.”

If crowned Mr. Tshwane, Sandile plans to use his platform to raise awareness about Period Poverty, promote education, and support initiatives that empower young people. “I’d also focus on addressing drug issues and unemployment in Soshanguve, partnering with organizations to provide resources and support,” he shares.

Munashe Siyanata’s Stunning National Costume: A Celebration of Zimbabwean Heritage

Royce Gavi, a talented designer and model, has made a significant impact in the world of pageantry with his stunning creations. His latest masterpiece, the national costume designed for Munashe Siyanata, the 2nd runner-up of Mister Heritage, is a testament to his creativity and passion for Zimbabwean culture. Inspired by the country’s rich tribal heritage, Gavi’s design showcases the beauty and diversity of Zimbabwe’s cultural identity.

The costume is a vibrant representation of the country’s heritage, incorporating materials such as Tonga leather, Nyawu and Ndebele designs, and horns, which not only add an aesthetic touch but also serve as a powerful advocacy for a positive relationship between humans and animals. By blending traditional elements with modern creativity, Gavi’s design is both a celebration of Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage and a statement about the importance of embracing and owning one’s cultural identity.

“The costume was exaggerated in form and shape, which is a modern and creative aspect of designing, although our Tonga leather, Nyawu, and Horns we incorporated as an advocacy for a positive relationship between human beings and animals,” Gavi notes.

The design process was not without its challenges, with Gavi facing difficulties in finding the right materials and incorporating wire into the design, a concept that was unfamiliar to him. However, through determination and research, he was able to overcome these obstacles and bring his vision to life. “I don’t remember making wire toys as a child, so the concept of using wire in the costume was almost impossible, however, through research, I managed to put it up together. Finding materials was also a challenge, which made the whole process exciting because of the joy that comes after facing these challenges is just satisfying,” Gavi shares.

As a model, Gavi has represented Zimbabwe at Mister Tourism Africa in Nigeria, and as a designer, he has created several costumes that have scooped the Best National Costume award at international level. “Well, as a model, I have done pageants and represented Zimbabwe at Mister Tourism Africa in Nigeria, and as a designer, I’ve made at least 3 costumes which scooped the Best National costume award at international level,” he highlights.

Gavi believes that showcasing his designs will spark an interest in collaborations with artists and other designers. “I think showcasing these designs will spark an interest in collaborations with artists and other designers,” he concludes.
