It’s count down to the finals of Mister Africa International a platform dedicated,to empower the lives of Africa’s male models’ achievements and journey in the modeling sector. Among the participants is Cape Verde model,Elvis Duarte.Whom during our conversation with us,he highlights the modeling activities in his country.

Q:Can you introduce yourself to our readers?

A:-My name is Elvis, I’m 27 years old, I’m from Cape verde, I am a young enterprenuer.
Q:Take us how your journey in the modelling sector began ?
A:It started in the way I wasn’t expect for it to happen. I was contacted by my Director Sasha Montez, who said I have potential for what she needed, and we worked in achieving the goal since.

Q:What are some of the challenges that you have faced in your journey and how did it contribute in achieving your dream ?
A:In the begin everything was so difficult, and this is not excuse, you have to face a lot things that you never had encountered ,you have to learn something new.
All this contribute to your knowledge and help you to achieve what you desire the most.

Q:Can you provide an insight of the modelling industry of your country ?
A:Here in my country, we are rich in all the terms in what the modelling industry need, we are beautiful,handsome, intelligent and ambitious people, but what we need is to explore it more.
Q:As you battling for Mister Africa International title,if you win how is Africa going to benefit from your achievement ?
A:This is my first time competing in an international event, so I believe it can help me and my people to show the world how precious we are, and how benefit it can help the modelling industry

Q:From the current title holder what lessons have you learnt from him ?
A:He looks ambitious, that’s who I am. It’s make me to do whatever it takes for what I want, and it seem he never stop going after other achievements even knowning he is holder of this trophy.
Q: One might be curious why do you believe you are the right candidate for the title ?
A:My country has potential and I believe in that potential, my people believe I can win, and I am going hard for it.

The community project,I’m developing is focused on the environment,on how to improve in several aspects.As Cape Verde ,has several nature reserves and endemic birds and plants, and is an epicenter of sea turtle spawning.

As this is my first time competing in an international event, I believe taking part in the event it can help me and my people to show the world how precious we are, and how benefit it can help the modelling industry

Winning the tittle comes with funding or actually the ability to acquire funds ,this in turn can help in holding educational campaigns towards teaching the boy child about ending child marriage ,and child abuse and also being able to connect those in need of scholarships to organizations that can help but could not have discovered “

“In all my life I have been a leader , I have learnt the ways of being an advocate for organizations ,talk about child abuse ,child marriage etc “

“My mission is to,advocacy and representing in all matters that help the youth …being able to lead citizens of different nations into the global good ..setting up a path,example and opportunities for male models .”

I got engaged in charity work in Bulawayo and Harare located a old people’s home and a needy family ,mobilized funds and reached out .I also managed to do a fitness show on the national channel (ZTV) for 3weeks which is a great health booster for the community in the times of Covid-19 pandemic .I have worked with educhildcare in the fight to end child marriages through workshops with teachers where we educated them on the effects of child’s marriage.

Africa has its roots ,but just like Mother Nature ,Culture evolves too ,new generations come with new beliefs and culture that’s always bound to happen .Above all always make sure you don’t go against conscience in whatever you do.

“If I win the pageant,the boy child will benefit by getting access to knowledge and opportunities for employment.I am a leader in my own country and well known for doing projects with young children in terms of providing space for learning and employment.”

“My global tours were in collaboration with DFL,an organisation in Johannesburg (SA) .We worked on a project that taught about HIV&Aids, relationships and sexuality through creative arts.We toured Amsterdam, Mozambique ,Sweden and across European Countries.”

“Sometimes you wake up and become an International Model and sometimes you have to go to many auditions. Whatever happens, keep consistent and keep pushing away negative comments. Our Industry is only alive because of you. Your dream to become a model needs to stay as this is what will change the World. Yes, we can change traditional beliefs, Yes we will have doubt and Yes we are changing the culture one day at a time stay different, stay brave!”

I wrote a book is title ‘Psychology of a Post Pandemic Mind.
The theme around it was ‘Man Escape a situation ‘.My book is inspired how the world had changed and I use fictional characters to speak about many issues in our world. I also celebrate all bodies in this book and you will read about many different lives and what they do to keep up.

My writing is very important for my mental health.
I wrote fictional and non fictional stories about my life experiences.
I am also an accademic and written papers that have been shownat the IESAS,which is the international association for education.

Q:You have been moving from one achievement to another achievement,what is your secret of success ?
A:The secret of success is to be optimistic and make sure you’re getting better than the last time.
Q:Can you tell us how you managed to work with Tana Africa and what the brand is all about?
A:The brand is called Tana Africa they specialize with accessories made with animal skin ,i was booked through top model Zimbabwe.
Q:What did it mean to you working with such a brand ?
A:It’s a sign, of that it’s possible to get where I want to be since Rome was not built in a day but in a day it will be accomplished.
Q:How did lockdown impact your work ?
A:It’s so hard to go to a shoot during lockdown and it was once in a blue moon to be booked.
Q:What lessons have you learnt from the lockdown ?
A:I have learnt that mobility is a necessity during lockdown is hard to use public transport .
Q:What does it mean working with Karin Davidson and who are some of the legends you have worked with …
A: I personally If I am given a chance to describe her, I am going to take hours.She is all ,I can say is, she’s too good.I have worked with Karin since 2015.
Q:If given an opportunity to work with any brand which brand will it be ?
A:Nike and more big brands .

Q:Aside from photogenic and commercial you also into fitness working out. How many times do you work out in a week ?
A:Fitness is a life style to me and I workout once a day in the morning only for 2hours excluding Sundays.
Q:Besides working out how do you keep your body in shape and healthy?
A:I’m a food enthusiast and natural herbs .
