What’s up, it’s Adrian “Dray Virus” Zw — founder of Making Moves and Voltage Crew Reloaded. As we mark Men’s Mental Health Month and Father’s Day, Fashion Inspirations sat down with me for a real talk. For years, dance and fitness have been my therapy, my discipline, and how I stay sharp mentally when the pressure hits. But it’s bigger than me. Too many fathers and young men in Zimbabwe carry stress in silence, thinking strength means holding it in. In this Q&A, I open up about how movement protects my mind, what fatherhood taught me about responsibility and love, and why staying active, connected, and emotionally honest is the real flex. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, this one’s for you. Let’s move, let’s talk, let’s grow.

Q.As we mark Men’s Mental Health Month, how has dance and fitness helped you maintain your mental and emotional well-being throughout your career?
A.Dance and fitness have been my therapy for many years. Whenever I am stressed, overwhelmed, or facing challenges, movement allows me to release pressure in a positive way. Dance gives me freedom of expression, while fitness helps me stay disciplined and focused. Together, they have helped me build resilience, confidence, and a healthy mindset throughout my career. They remind me that taking care of your body is also taking care of your mind.
Q.Many men suffer from stress and depression in silence. What message would you give to men who are struggling but afraid to speak up or seek help?
A.My message is simple: speaking up is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of strength. Too many men feel they must carry every burden alone, but the truth is that we all need support sometimes. Whether it’s a friend, family member, mentor, or professional, reaching out can make a huge difference. You don’t have to fight every battle by yourself. Your mental health matters, and asking for help is one of the bravest things a man can do.

Q.How effective is dance as a tool for reducing stress, anxiety and the pressures of everyday life?A.Dance is incredibly effective because it combines physical activity, creativity, and social interaction. When you dance, your focus shifts away from worries and toward the present moment. It releases endorphins, boosts mood, and helps reduce tension. For many people, including myself, dance creates a safe space where they can express emotions they may struggle to put into words. It is one of the most powerful and accessible tools for improving mental well-being.
Q.Through your work with Making Moves, what changes have you witnessed in people’s confidence, happiness and overall mental health after embracing fitness and dance?A.The transformations have been inspiring. I’ve seen people who started with low confidence become more outgoing, energetic, and self-assured. Many have told me that fitness and dance helped them overcome anxiety, improve their self-esteem, and find a supportive community. Beyond physical results, the biggest changes are often emotional—people smile more, believe in themselves more, and approach life with a more positive outlook.
Q.What does fatherhood mean to you?A.Fatherhood means leadership, responsibility, love, and being present. It is about guiding, protecting, and supporting your children while also setting a positive example through your actions. Being a father is not just about providing financially; it is about creating meaningful memories, teaching values, and helping your children grow into confident and responsible individuals.
Q.In your opinion, what are some of the biggest mental health challenges facing fathers and gentlemen in today’s society?A.Many fathers and men face pressure to provide, succeed, and remain strong at all times. Financial stress, work demands, family responsibilities, and societal expectations can create significant mental strain. Unfortunately, many men still feel uncomfortable discussing their emotions, which can lead to isolation and silent suffering. We need to create environments where men feel safe to express themselves without fear of judgment.
Q.How can fathers and young gentlemen use activities such as dance, exercise and fitness to strengthen bonds with their children and families?A.Physical activities create opportunities for connection. Whether it’s dancing together at home, taking walks, exercising, or participating in community events, these shared experiences build trust, communication, and lasting memories. They also promote healthy lifestyles and show children the importance of taking care of both their physical and mental health. Families that move together often grow stronger together.

Q.Most of your clients are women. What lessons have you learned from working with women that have influenced your approach to wellness and personal growth?A.Working with women has taught me the importance of empathy, consistency, and emotional awareness. I’ve learned that wellness is not only about physical results but also about confidence, self-love, and emotional well-being. Women often demonstrate incredible resilience and determination, and those qualities have inspired me to approach personal growth with greater patience, understanding, and balance.
Q.Looking back on your journey with Voltage Crew Reloaded and Making Moves, what role has discipline played in protecting your mental health and achieving success?A.Discipline has been the foundation of everything I’ve achieved. Motivation comes and goes, but discipline keeps you moving forward even on difficult days. It has helped me maintain healthy routines, stay focused on my goals, and manage stress more effectively. Through both Voltage Crew Reloaded and Making Moves, discipline has allowed me to grow professionally while protecting my mental and emotional well-being.

Q.As we celebrate Father’s Day and Men’s Mental Health Month, what final message would you like to share with fathers, young men and aspiring dancers across Zimbabwe?A.I want to encourage every father, young man, and aspiring dancer across Zimbabwe to believe in themselves and never stop growing. Take care of your mental health just as seriously as your physical health. Do not be afraid to ask for help, learn from others, and pursue your passions. Stay disciplined, stay active, and stay connected to the people who support you. Success is not just about achievements—it is about becoming the best version of yourself while uplifting those around you. Keep moving, keep dancing, and keep inspiring the next generation.
