The Abangane Platform is a mental health support group that disseminates information from mental health experts to the general public about various issues on the topic of mental health issues.

The word Abangane is a Ndebele word that means friends. It stems from the idea that the Abangane platform seeks to create a safe place for young people to fully express themselves on the issues affecting them such as unemployment; lack of access to proper recreation access; drugs and substance abuse; unhealthy family dynamics which we believe affect an individual’s mental health drastically.

Their main role is to strive to empower survivors and victim of mental health disorders along with their family members to lead healthier lives.

On account of the silence and general ignorance towards the issue of mental health within the country, the program helps make mental health services more accessible to the youth through vital information that has proved to be scarce in the Zimbabwean culture climate.

Abangane was founded in May 2021 after our Founder Zibusiso Munandi a mental health advocate realized the gap that existed in the Community due to lack of information surrounding Mental Health hence the stigma and discrimination he received because of his own mental health condition leading to the birth of Abangane Platform.
Thursday they have discussions usually have Mental Health expects who delve into various topics around mental health. Also they have referrals to expects for those who want one on one with an expect.

The organization has appointed, reigning Mister Africa International Zimbabwe,Mark Mabwe as one of their brand ambassadors.

Mabwe who is an advocate for, mental health awareness among men in his country and across the continent for men to speak and share their problems.
Has been working hand in hand with other mental health support groups, such as the ‘Boychild Project’ which is headed by Shadel Noble.

Recently every month Zimbabwe has recorded, suicide number of cases that have been committed by men and Abangane along with Mister Africa International Zimbabwe are working together to open up a platform for men to speak out.

KING NKOSY ,TALKS ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF ATTENDING THE 4TH EDITION OF THE DANDY GENTLEMEN

King Nkosinathi who is Zimbabwe’s reigning Mister Zimbabwe is among the guests in Zimbabwe’s 4th edition

A: Being Mister Zimbabwe has definitely come with its own ups and downs, I love being Mister Zimbabwe, I mean who wouldn’t. It definitely has opened up doors of opportunities.

Q:What has been the best moment of your journey since you won the title?
A: Going back home and telling my parents that I had made it. That I, a regular Zimbabwean child, had won the title
Mr Zimbabwe. Their hugs and ululations and seeing their joy. That’s something no one can take away.

Q:As a king we know you face some challenges what are some of the challenges that you faced and managed to conquer?
A: My biggest challenge is having to live up to the weight of the title.
Having people in the industry who look up to me to withhold the industries standards; and even the children out there looking at me as their role model.
It can be a little too much for anyone mentally.

Q:Are you happy with the state of the male modeling industry of your country?
A:No. Male models are being undermined and undervalued.
They are not given the respect they deserve as creative professionals which is evident in the way contracts are breached and the compensation for our services.

Q:You are currently taking part at the Men’s Dandy Fashion Show why is this show important to men especially models?
A: The Dandy Men is a movement to create safe spaces for men in our society where they can be themselves, be expressive in clothing, redefine masculinity and address issues of mental health.
This is important to male models because we face mental health issues that come with being exposed to kind-unkind world of the Internet. We’ve been through thick and thin and we made it out alive. we hope to guide those who are struggling mentally through this space.

Q:Do you believe what you wear determines your attitude?
A: Yes. Any nice tailored suit would make anyone feel like they can take on the world.

Q:Who is your style muse?
A: I’m more diverse. Each style has its own muse: from formal to casual to avant-garde.

Q:Aside from visiting the City of Kings and Queens at the Dandy Show. What are your major plans before you leave your office?
A: Connecting with all the models within reach and leaving a legacy for the next generation.

Q:What words do you have to someone who is still thinking if they can attend the Men’s Dandy Fashion ?
A: Everyone is welcome to attend the fashion show. It’s a great space to unwind, connect and network.

The 4th EDITION OF DANDY GENTLEMEN RUNS UNDER THE THEME MENTAL HEALTH

CITY OF KINGS AND QUEENS TO HOST DANDY GENTLEMEN’s 4th EDITION

Dandy Men’s genetleman is currently, Zimbabwe’s most spoken fashion movement in Southern Africa’s landlocked country.

Last year the movement went on hold due to the Covid 19 pandemic as the government of Zimbabwe had to place restrictions to crab the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic.
Among the laws that were applied was to ban both public and private gatherings and the Dandy Gentlemen was under that sector.
However this might have played a major role in controlling the Covid 19 pandemic,it didnt prevent classic, vintage and fashion lovers to prepare their costumes for the second edition of Dandy Gentleman.

The movement was founded by Anesu Mhembere prominently known in the world of fashion as Minister of Whitelinen who teamed up with fashion and model icon, Ben Chest and Erasmus Wutawunashe&Taropofadzwa Mudzingwa.

Minister of Whitelinen stated out ,that the event which last year commerced first in the capital of Zimbabwe,Harare is making a twist this year as the 4th edition will start in the city of Kings and Queens.
Part of the reasons of having the movement’s second edition starting in Bulawayo, its because it will go hand in hand with the LADIES VOGUE .
Ladies vogue is a similar movement with the men’s Dandy Gentlemen, although this will be the launch of the Ladies Vogue in Bulawayo.

“This Year we started with Bulawayo because we because on the very same day we are launching VogueLadies, which is a similar movement for the ladies,”informed Minister Whitelinen.

Minister , further added that this year the event will not only focus towards fashion however at the mental health of every gentleman hence its themed, “MENTAL HEALTH”.

” This Year the flashmob will be different in the sense that it is not only focusing on cultivating a fashion consciousness within our blackmen community but also it is clearly themed “Mental Health” to add value to the man figure rather than just motivate him fashion wise,”said
Minister Whitelinen.

The event is scheduled to take part on the 24th of September, with activities such as the fashion runway show, street parades and discussions .

Minister of Whitelinen:

Theme Mental Health : Men form the base of any community even as God designed and gave them a masculinity as strength to stand for their families and community. When the men is affected and his masculinity is taken away in most cases his environment is in jeopardy. We are here driving a mental health awareness which is a part of the man that has been affected a lot by global changes, modern society pressures, the recent lockdown and other threatening circumstances. There is need to encourage men to seek mental health healing and create a platform for them to network and receive mental and emotional support from their fellow men and specialist. In the past season it is evident that men have been victims of suicide, committers of crimes of passion and some even suffered domestic violence. The community however has given the girl child so much attention forgetting that the men also plays a big role in the community and we are here to cover that gap.

ITS A BLESSING TO BE APPRECIATED BY YOUR OWN !

ITS A BLESSING TO BE APPRECIATED BY YOUR OWN !

Blekks Makwara is Zimbabwe’s multi-award winning actor whom one can describe as an editorial model. He has worked with a number of brands and prominent names in his country above all his well known for his casting role in Tangled, one of the popular Zimbabwe’s regional soap.
Blekks Makwara recently won three gongs at his home two, with two coming from the modelling category and the other from his acting career. In a conversation with him ,Blekks explains what it means to be awarded in his home town and he gives an insight about his fashion inspiration.

Q: As a model what determines what you wear or your fashion style?
A:Fashion sense , creative style and touch of grace and elegance works through the matrix of different frame works such as the type of event/occasion ,purpose, fashionista intentions and also awareness of one’s body type , height , shape and size ,the prevail trend informs and determines apart from one might have a personal preference on style statements n signatures they like..

Q: Do you believe fashion dress code gives one an impression of who they are?
A:Yes and no… but not always.
Sometimes a person can dress because that’s his/her fashion designers sense and often times we selling, telling portraying a certain culture, message, and concept.Hence it’s not automatic that it’s always the case wen it then directly determines their personality.

Q:How far true is the myth that for a model to succeed they need to be part of big cities?
A: The myth as said is a myth kkkk …well there are more handicaps being in a small city but that does not stop the yeast from escalating to the top – “dynamites come in small packages” .
The big city is just a different league but the essence of art , talent , principle and dedication ,drive work ethos n ethics are the same. You can be in a big city and still not make it, but in my view the ingredients of a champ are the raw materials which are most significant in making the difference then environments n opportunities are secondary..

Q: You recently won an award in Masvingo as the Best Model in your own hometown. What does it mean to you to receive such a recognition ?
A:It’s an esteem high honor .As the old Aderg says , “a prophet has no honor in his own home town ” … but to scoop three(3) awards in your home ground , words alone cannot quantify or construct how exceptional the experience was and is it’s also a mamoth responsibility too to carry the ambassadorship of your home town .. It makes me want to go on higher, press thru ,archieve more , hopefully inspire many more and pave way for others that it can be and should be done at the highest levels.

Q: How do you manage you handle your time as you are a model, actor, father and a husband?
A:There is a time and purpose for everything . As a multi skilled and talented individual with many responsibilities it’s paramount to structuring ones life your priorities ,appointments, schedule n calendar, time for recreation further more it can necessary in investing in a personal manager to facilitate and foster the business side of things for stability expansion and longevity in this scenario no area suffers from neglect or poor time allocation.

Q: In terms of acting and film industry what led you into acting?
A: I guess the modelling took the front leg until some not few years ago prominate film directors started approaching me and recommending me for the screen, casted me on their projects because they said l have the look already now get the act and the next level unlocked.
From 2017 I started taking the strides to learn grow till present day by God’s grace am scaling heights tho I feel iam still a novice have n he a lot to learn n master..

Q: Can you tell us about your current film project?
A: Currently, l am working on a several number of projects but will pick one dubbed TANGLED a Zimbabwean telenovela on DStv cable Tv. I was given the opportunity to play the role of Dr. Patrick Murimi , a psychiatrist … this character explores the conflict of coming from a well up family but love leads him to a lady who is deemed not to be in the same class with him and the mother despises these development vehemently n trys by all means to crush n break the relationship… it’s a twist n thriller and must watch n follow.

Q: If given an opportunity to choose one between these two Nollywod and Mzansi film which brand would you work with ?
A:Nollywood

Q: What advise would you give to young aspiring models and actors?
A.Be yourself , believe in yourself the talent and gift is yours, Be resolute persistent and consistence always Develop ,upgrade yourself in all areas that pertain your passion. Never get content always strive to out do yourself all bench marks you attain at every stage and level – keep it simple .
