Bulawayo’s modelling industry gets its moment as 2026 awards open nominations

Bulawayo’s modelling industry is made up of more than the faces seen on the runway. Behind every successful walk are photographers, designers, choreographers, pageant directors, agencies and other creatives who help bring a production to life. The Bulawayo Models Awards 2026 will offer an opportunity to recognise these contributions when nominations open on 19 October.

The nominations will run until 30 November, giving members of the modelling and fashion community time to submit entries across a wide range of categories.
The awards cover different stages of a model’s journey, from newcomers trying to establish themselves to established names whose work has helped shape the industry. Categories include Model of the Year, Outstanding Male Model, Outstanding Female Model, Best Fashion Model, Best Pageant Model and Outstanding Runway Model.

There is also room for those whose work happens away from the spotlight. Best Model Photographer, Outstanding Models Fashion Designer, Outstanding Models Agency, Best Pageant Director and Outstanding Pageant Choreographer are among the categories, recognising the people who contribute to the success of fashion shows and pageants.

The inclusion of Outstanding Model Project also opens the door to recognition for initiatives within the modelling space, while Outstanding Brand Ambassador and Best Influencer reflect the growing role models and public personalities play in promoting brands and engaging audiences.
Other categories include Most Photogenic, Most Travelled, Outstanding Fitness Model, Best Newcomer and Best Influencer. The awards will also recognise pageant and fashion show masters of ceremonies, video production, performing artists and companies that support the modelling industry.

Educational institutions have not been left out. Categories for outstanding varsity, college and university pageants, as well as campus King and Queen competitions, bring student modelling and pageantry into the wider conversation.

One of the notable inclusions is the Legendary Lifetime Awards, which creates space to acknowledge individuals whose contributions to modelling have extended beyond a single show or season.
For Bulawayo’s fashion and modelling community, the breadth of the categories offers an opportunity to reflect on the people and work that keep the industry moving. Recognition can be important for emerging talent seeking visibility, as well as established creatives whose contribution may not always receive the same attention as the models they work with.

However, the significance of the awards will ultimately depend on the quality of participation, the credibility of the selection process and how well the recognition translates into opportunities for those involved.

With nominations opening on 19 October and closing on 30 November 2026, interested participants can submit their entries by email to bulawayomodels26@gmail.com.

For those working in modelling, fashion and pageantry, the nomination period is an opportunity to put forward the names and work they believe deserve recognition in Bulawayo’s creative industry.
