Kunashe Kays is a 27 year old model who participated at the recently pageant,Mister Zimbabwe International as one of the finalists.
We interacted with Kunashe about his modelling journey and his experience as part of the finalists of Mister Zimbabwe International.
In addition ,Kunashe Kays speaks out about what young African’s can do to fight drug abuse

Q:Who is kunashe kays?
A:Kunashe Kay’s is Petros Kunashe Makuwire.
Born on the 8th of february 1995, in the city of Harare.
I’m fortunate to have an extended family though I was raised by a single mom who has been my pillar of strength and my cheerleader.
I am a chef by profession and i have worked in several food outlets and restaurants.
I also gained my cooking and baking experience in TM Pick n Pay group of supermarkets. I have a strong passionate for food, this has clearly made me give back to the community by starting baking classes using YouTube.
I also have been doing different cakes for different occasions.
I strive with excellence so that one day my dream will come when I get to operate a big restaurant and eventually opening a culinary school.
Q:You are part of the Mister Zimbabwe International Finalist how had been your journey so far?
A:The day i met Mr Ishmael on instagram it was like a dream come true.
I was not expecting a quick response but he responded within the same hour of messaging him and luckily my journey began.
My journey has been really focused on growth, appreciation and humanitarianism.
I’ve learnt that having looks and a well masculined trimmed body isn’t what Mister Zimbabwe International is just all about, but rather it’s about your personality, tolerance, and the brains. These characteristics clearly speaks volume over Mister Zimbabwe International crown.
I have also learnt that being really doesn’t cost a thing, which others note that its only costs $0.00 to be a generous person, hence it’s one learned character as part of my journey so far.
I have learnt also on giving back to the community, we would get time to visit children’s homes and foster houses.
I was privileged to get to understand the other side of life, appreciating some people who are not having the basic commodities, so this has helped me discover that from the little thing that one can actually put a smile on someone’s face. I have learnt that I dont just have to be a model pageantry so that i can be able to give back to the community.
Q: Why do you believe you carry the characteristics of the king ?
A:The very first and vital charecteristic that I have is being assertive.
Assertive means showing that you respect yourself because you’re willing to stand up for your interests and express your thoughts and feelings, being confident in simple terms. As a model, confidence, excellent articulation and courage are, important, I believe I possess these qualities which are vital for one to carry the King crown.
As a model one has to be well represantable,an influencer in the community and someone who can impact positively in people’s lives. Criticism has been one of the drawbacks in most modeling peagants and it has impacted adversely hence, I’ve taken criticism as constructive and helps me to correct any lacking quality or performance. I’ve used it positively to come out stronger and better.
Q:What has been your greatest moment since your journey began?
A:Atfirst i was still doubting if i was going to sail through but all heartfelt gratitude goes to my Director Ishamael.
He has been patient with me, imagine starting to teach a 3 year old how to read and write, this was me at the beginning but now I believe I’m one of the best contestants through courage, dedication and confidence.
The greatest moment since my journey began would be when we (and other contestants) visited children’s homes for charity work/project and socializing.
It impacted positively to me and to the ophanes.
Generous, love and care is simply taught there. Seeing the jovial children just being delighted because of our presence, and charity work, was heart warming.
Q:What is your take of how African youths can fight against drug abuse?
A:I believe as a youth of today most have lost their morals, norms and values of our African culture.
As a modern era were things have become digitalized internet had become our parent and this has been influencing youth to indulge in hate crimes, drug abuse which have caused so many damages to youth and the society at large. In order to fight against drug abuse in africa , establishing rules and consequences and strict penalties on drug abuse, keeping track of prescriped drugs, providing support to those under depression, the government should create more job opportunities for the citizens and lastly, having more drug abuse campaign awareness against drug abuse.
Q:Who is your inspiration in the world of modelling?
A:I have two people that have been my inspiration which are Tinonetenda Chinyani(Zimbabwean) and Zozibini Tunzi (South African) formerMiss Universe 2019.
Tino Chinyanani is someone I’ve been idolozing, someone I’m following his footsteps, his admiration and dedication to modeling and giving back to the society is something I look up to.
Talking, of Zozibini she became the voice of every African girl child, upholding affirmative action, quota system and a free society for all, has greatly made a huge positive impact in the African society. In contrast, since Zozi has made huge impact in girl child, I believe I can collaborate with her and also make a huge difference I’m boy child especially in mental health.
Q:What words do you have to those that have been supporting you from day one?
A:Since i began, i never thought there will be overwhelming support, for someone who had insecurities over his body, would be criticised over my small thin body, but one thing is important, those who supported me through out. I’d like to thank everyone who has given me any sort of support.
Through the support I gained, it made me become confident, abondoning my insecurities and focus on what’s important.
Q:If given an opportunity to catwalk in any pageant show, which show will it be and why?
A:Given an opportunity in any pageant show I would wish to walk in Man of the earth show, its a show that’s recognized globally and it gives me opportunity to interact with other models, getting more depth knowledge and obviously being exposed, and experience too.
