When you opt for purchasing a sexy unique underwear,as a male customer in Africa.Your sexuality is questioned,leading to one to be shy and afraid of purchasing their favourite types of briefs.This motivated the founder of the Dafe Umute to establish,a unique underwear brand.In an exclusive interview, he tells us about some of the reasons that have influenced his brand to design sexy male underwears.Also he tells us more about the awards he has won since,his brand was establishedQ.What type of underwear does your brand mainly focused on ?
A.It focuses in all kinds of underwear,from briefs to boxer briefs,Jockstraps all underwear for everyone we are a unisex brand.
Our products allow our clients to express themselves the way they feel and whole point is to be comfortable with your skin and that is the whole idea behind the brand.
We are trying to encourage people to wear sexy underwear,with out shame and fear .
Q.Describe the line of your brand in three words ?
A.sexy and not trash
Q.Last year you won the Best swimsuit design award during the NIHAA awards what did the recognition meant to you as a designer and as. brand ?
A:The award is a very important and special award,I have won almost 22 awards and that was my last award.
It meant a lot to me because that was about Humanity and I am kind of a person who is all into that and acceptance.
Last year was a very difficult year for the world.
To be able to be seen as a brand that deserves such recognition,despite what we are going through it means a lot .
I am grateful to the organisers.
Q:Which materials do you as a team use to make sure that your clients feel comfortable with your product ?
A:We use all kinds of fabrics for the underwear,as the are different and they require different types of fabrics.
But most of the type I use cotton and Polyester as they are comfortable and breath air.
Q:Speaking about clients who is your clientilee?
A:Those who want to wear nice,to be sexy and those whom when they take of their clothes people stair as they want to see what they are wearing underneath,which is really sexy .
Q.This year you introduced a 3 months underwear/bikini designing masterclasses how was the response from your call ?
A:It was amazing as I received,a number of responses that I wasn’t expecting to. However I had requested a limited number of people,to attend the seminar. Next time I promise to have more people.
Q.What do you think is the main impact that has contributed for Africa to have less male underwear brands ?
A.Most people in the African Community believe,that it’s not important in fashion to focus in the underwear sector.
Also I wanted to create an awareness that its yet and is part of the fashion industry.
Q.With COVID 19 in our presences how are you managing to reach out to your local and international clients ?
A.Currently I am on hold,when it comes to shipping our product,outside Nigeria.
