The year 2017,was the year when Derrick Ocloo broke the ice as he stepped into his new career, of being a model. Not knowing that years to follow he is going to be nominated in numerous, modeling and fashion awards.2021 has also turned out to be the biggest year for the Ghananian model,Derrick Ocloo as he has been nominated in a number of awards.In an exclusive interview with him,we learn more about his journey and also how his nominations have changed his career.
Q:You have been nominated at the Ghana Style Awards can you tell us more about your nomination?
A: I was nominated for the Ghana style awards due to my outstanding works which needs to be recognized for which am very grateful .Q:This is not the first nomination of awards in your country this year ,what do you think your nomination in several awards means about your career?
A: My nominations in several awards means that , my effort and contribution towards the fashion industry is been noticed and appreciated.Q:State some of the runway shows you have been part of?
A:I have been on Tema Black art street festival
which was my first on time on the runway. Also been on Accra fashion week, Bryte African Fashion Week and Modest Fashion WeekQ:In Africa which fashion brands do you want to catwalk for ….
A: In Africa , I would like to walk for some brands like Mish Mega Collections from Ghana, Laduma Maxhosa from South Africa, Don Morphy from Cameroon, Thebe Magugu from South Africa and Tongoro from Senegal.Q:What type of steps do you take to make sure you nail it when ever you appear in a runway ramp?
A:I rehearse my walk on my own days before the show. On the day of the main event, I get the event centre as early as possible to familiarize myself with the environment and also rehearse my stylish walk on the event runway once again for couple of minutes before the main event begins which has helped me nailed my performance on the runway.Q:What has made you to be a successful model?
A:My looks and appearance which some prominent people in the fashion industry claim to be international standard , my outstanding photoshoots and constant rehearsals has helped me
to become a successful model.Q:What do you think makes Ghana’s modelling industry to be unique?
A:The friendly and harmonious environment among the Ghanaian models is breath taking and when it comes to the wonderful stylish and catwalk performances by Ghanaian models on the runway, is because we have wonderful legendary choreographers in our modelling industry.Q:Away in Africa which runway shows do you want to work in as a model ?
A: Away from Africa, I would like to be in New York Fashion week, Paris Fashion week, Milan Fashion week and Russian fashion week.Q:Briefly tell us about your modelling background?
A: I am a shy type and have low level of confidence but had interest in becoming a model . I watched a lot of fashion shows on the television and my interest for modelling grew more. Later part in 2017, I decided to pick up courage to face my fears to join the fashion industry by join a modelling agency to receive the necessary training to qualify me as a professional model. I engaged in professional photoshoots to help promote my brand and since then , found myself on couple of runway shows.
